April 22, 2009 – With the potential for organizations in the U.S. to save billions of dollars in operating costs and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by millions of tons per year, it’s clear that improving the energy efficiency of the nation’s building stock is both good for the environment and the bottom line. As a Premier Day Sponsor, Siemens Building Technologies, Inc. will help promote and forward the building energy efficiency agenda at the launch of this premier event April 22-23 in Columbia, Mo.

According to event organizers, the Missouri Energy Summit is designed to bring together faculty and researchers, businesses, entrepreneurs and venture capitalists from across the state and beyond, along with federal and state agencies, to explore and showcase Missouri's cutting-edge research and development efforts in energy, alternative fuel sources, power, storage, infrastructure and enabling technologies. The summit will highlight the state’s successes—and work to help create a road map for a more sustainable future for Missouri government, businesses and educators. The summit promises to be a content-rich two days with national, state and local speakers, including T. Boone Pickens, a visionary in our nation’s future energy strategy.

As a leader in energy efficiency solutions and technologies for buildings, Siemens Building Technologies participation is a natural fit because of its active role in developing the sustainability and energy efficiency of the state’s infrastructure. As a part of the Missouri Water Utility Partnership, Siemens is working with EPA Region 7, the EPA PEER Center at Missouri University of Science and Technology and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources in a joint effort to help Missouri municipal water utilities reduce energy use and improve the efficiency of their operations.

Speaking in the afternoon session Wednesday April 22 will be Bob Dixon, senior vice president and global head of efficiency and sustainability at Siemens Building Technologies. Dixon, who leads strategic global initiatives on building efficiency and sustainability for the company, is a past president of National Association of Energy Service Companies and currently serves as industry vice chair for the Alliance to Save Energy. He is the industry member on the Buildings and Appliances Task Force under the Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate and leads Siemens Building Technologies’ strategic global partnership with the Clinton Climate Initiative. Dixon’s remarks will be available as a live webcast during the session.

As a leading provider of energy and environmental solutions, building controls, fire safety and security systems solutions, Siemens Building Technologies, Inc., makes buildings comfortable, safe, secure and less costly to operate. With U.S. headquarters in Buffalo Grove, Ill., Siemens Building Technologies employs 7,400 people and provides a full range of services and solutions from more than 100 locations coast-to-coast. Worldwide, the company has 28,000 employees and operates from more than 500 locations in 51 countries.
